Job Description Job Description Job Title: Produce Buyer Job Summary: The Produce Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing fresh produce inventory to ensure consistent quality, availability, and profitability. This role involves vendor negotiation, market analysis, demand forecasting, and close collaboration with merchandising, operations, and quality teams to meet customer expectations and company standards. Key Responsibilities: Source and purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from approved growers, distributors, and wholesalers Negotiate pricing, volume, delivery terms, and contracts to maximize value and minimize risk Monitor produce quality, seasonality, and market trends to make informed buying decisions Forecast demand and manage inventory levels to reduce spoilage, shrink, and out-of-stocks Maintain accurate purchase orders, pricing records, and inventory data Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure food safety, freshness, and regulatory compliance Coordinate with logistics, warehouse, and store teams to ensure timely and efficient product flow Evaluate supplier performance and develop long-term vendor relationships Respond to disruptions, quality issues, or market fluctuations with timely solutions Support promotional planning and pricing strategies in partnership with merchandising and marketing teams Required Qualifications: Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, agriculture, or related field 2–5 years of experience in buying, purchasing, or merchandising preferably in produce Strong knowledge of fresh produce varieties, growing seasons, and sourcing regions Proven negotiation and vendor management experience Ability to analyze data, sales trends, and inventory reports Strong organizational and time-management skills Proficiency with purchasing systems, spreadsheets, and inventory management tools Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Benefits (for those who qualify): Free Medical, Drug, Vision, and Dental through HMSA or Kaiser and HDS Voluntary Benefits such as Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity coverage; Life Insurance options; Long Term Disability coverage; Legal Services coverage; Identity Theft Protection; Pet Insurance; HealthCare FSA; and Dependent Care FSA Employee perks include discounts on select businesses and services 401k with company match Paid Time Off Hilo Products Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
