Description POSITION TITLE: Residential Assistant I DEPARTMENT: Community Based Residential (CBR) III Group Home RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Director STATUS: Non-Exempt DATE: Sept 2020 General Statement: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is a spiritual regeneration of all people. JOB SUMMARY: The Residential Assistant for the Community Based Residential (CBRIII) program, is a Full time 40 hours a week position, The Residential Assistant performs the essential functions as indicated in this job description and is supervised by the Clinical Director of the CBRIII. Candidates for the position must meet all credentialing standards set forth by the Department of Health Children & Adolescent Mental Health Division (DOH, CAMHD), and therefore, to be eligible as a potential candidate for the position, applicants must also complete the CAMHD Credentialing Application. + MINIMUM & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: + High school graduate + Valid TB 2 step clearance + Valid First Aid and CPR certification + DHS FBI/Criminal History & CAN cleared + Active National Practitioner Identification (NPI) number + Motor vehicle records (MVR) cleared Meets Salvation Army standards as an authorized driver. + Meets and Maintains DOH CAMHD Credentialing standards + DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Meets a minimum criteria as a Paraprofessional One status, as established under the Department of Health (DOH), Child Adolescent Mental Health Division (CAMHD) standards. This includes a minimum High School diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year experience providing direct care to children and adolescents; or Personnel with a college degree from an accredited university in a field of study other than Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Mental Health or Behavioral Health Counseling and at least one (1) year experience providing direct care to children and adolescents + At least one-year experience working either with troubled or at risk-youth, or within a residential, mental health, and/or behavioral setting, or some combination thereof. + Some post High school and college course work in related social service field. + ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: + Assist the Residential Specialist in the following: + Transporting of residents to and from school, work and/or scheduled appointments, recreational outings. + Supervision of residents during routine program activities such as: meal preparation, recreational activities at the facility or on a group outing. + Participation in informal group sessions with resident. + Implement chore system to residents and monitoring for completeness. + Provide back up support during emergencies at the shelter, which may include safe restraints. + Menu planning for the CBRIII program. Supervision of residents in meal preparation. + Aid in orientation of new residents at the shelter. + Assist in planning and implementing group recreational activities and outings. + Providing feed back, oral and written reports to Residential Specialist when counseling residents. + Maintain necessary record keeping as assigned. + Must be able to maintain assigned work schedules as determined by the needs of the CBRIII program including work schedules and shifts throughout the early morning, late evening, weekends, and Holidays. OTHER FUNCTIONS + Performs other duties as assigned. SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES: + Completion of thirty (30) hours of orientation and documented shadowing of at least three shifts before being allowed to work independently. This training shall be completed within three (3) months from the initial credentialing date. + Willingness to accept and implement The Salvation Army philosophy. + Good/sound judgment, dependability, initiate understanding, firmness, caring, organization, high energy level and ability to work under conditions of stress and change without verbal or active expression. MENTAL DEMANDS: + Work under stressful conditions + Interact with others with courtesy and tact + Relate to wide range of people and situations including youth, parents, agency workers, police, school personnel, etc. + Work within an interdisciplinary team concept; participate in staff training and growth group + Manage and prioritize multiple projects in an organized and efficient manner + Respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner + Complete projects on schedule + Maintain confidentiality + Maintain regular and punctual work attendance; may require flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. Duties will require safe restraints of residents involved in physical confrontations. COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephones; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies. Ability and skill in communicating with people of different cultures/ethnicity. SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: Prioritize multiple work tasks to meet tight deadlines EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work will be indoors at Family Intervention Services. Attendance at trainings, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required.
