Location: Hilo, Hawaii Job Type: 13-week contract Start Date:
Earliest 23 Feb Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts (0645 1915) Hours:
Scheduled 36 hours per week after orientation (hours not
guaranteed) Position overview The RN Flex Pool provides
comprehensive inpatient nursing care while floating between
medical, surgical, and cardiovascular units based on daily staffing
needs. This role is suited to experienced nurses who are adaptable,
confident in their clinical judgment, and able to function
independently across multiple adult acute care settings. Key
responsibilities Provide patient-centered nursing care on medical,
surgical acute, and occasional cardiovascular step-down units.
Float between the Medical Unit, Surgical Acute (Laulima), and
Cardiovascular Unit according to unit needs and census. Perform
head-to-toe assessments, monitor vital signs, and recognize early
signs of patient deterioration. Administer medications, IV
therapies, and treatments safely, following facility policies and
regulatory standards. Implement and adjust individualized plans of
care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary
team. Utilize unit equipment and technology including Pyxis, wound
vacs, chest tubes, and telemetry as applicable. Accurately document
assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic
medical record (EMR). Maintain compliance with hospital policies,
safety standards, infection control, and isolation precautions.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, and
discharge plans, promoting continuity of care. Required
qualifications Active Hawaii RN license (must be active by
assignment start date). Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in
acute care (2 10 years preferred). Current BLS certification. ACLS
preferred; PALS, TNCC, ENPC, and Procedural Sedation certifications
strongly desired. Demonstrated ability to float between units,
manage a 1:4 1:6 assignment, and prioritize care in a fast-paced
environment. Unit details Medical Unit: 77 beds; typical
nurse-to-patient ratio 1:6 on days/evenings (may vary with census
and staffing). Surgical Acute (Laulima): 18 beds; typical
nurse-to-patient ratio 1:6. Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds; typical
nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4. Additional information Comprehensive
orientation provided on each assigned unit prior to independent
practice. Professional nursing attire (clean scrubs) required.
Holiday coverage required as scheduled. Proof of immunity required
in accordance with facility policy; medical or religious exemptions
are not accepted. Must arrive the Thursday before start date for
employee health and onboarding appointments. What this opportunity
