Acute Location: Hilo, HI Start Date: 02-04-2026 End Date:
05-06-2026 Contract Type: Travel Contract Shift Type: Three 12-hour
shifts per week; rotating 12-hour shifts (day and night rotations)
with weekend coverage required — exact start/end times vary by unit
and will be provided by the scheduler Hours per Week: 36 Candidate

Roles & Responsibilities Provide expert surgical preoperative and
postoperative nursing care for adult patients Perform thorough
patient assessments and deliver safe, timely medication
administration Operate and monitor IV and PCA pumps and respond to
alarms promptly Manage chest tubes, wounds and drains with careful
documentation and attention to detail Chart accurately in the
WOWS/EMR system and manage controlled substances via Pyxis
Collaborate with the surgical team, physicians and
interdisciplinary staff to optimize patient outcomes Educate
patients and families on post-op care, recovery expectations and
safety at discharge Float to other units as assigned, supporting
the broader team where needed Qualifications Active State of Hawaii
RN license required by start of assignment RPN III (must
demonstrate standard RPN III competencies) Minimum of 2 years of
RPN III experience with strong surgical pre/postoperative
background Current BLS and ACLS certifications required Comfortable
with abdominal surgeries (lap chole, appendectomy), mastectomies,
thyroidectomies and related post-op care Experience with EMR
(WOWS), Pyxis, IV/PCA pumps, chest tube and wound/drain management
Ability to float to other units, work weekends and maintain a
flexible schedule Knowledge & Skills Surgical preoperative care
Surgical postoperative care IV therapy and infusion pump management
PCA pump operation and troubleshooting EMR (WOWS) charting and
accurate documentation Pyxis medication system operation Vital
signs monitoring and patient assessment Chest tube management and
wound/drain care Medication administration and safe narcotics
handling Ability to work within a 12-hour surgical unit and a
1:5–1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio Benefits Medical, Dental & Vision
