Job Description: Medical–Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) – Contract Job Type: Contract Position Urgency: Normal Duration: 13–15 weeks Positions Available: 1 Schedule: Variable shifts (days or nights, TBD); scheduled 36 hours per week following the first full week of orientation Holiday Coverage: Required (no holiday RTO requests) On-Call: None Shift Flexibility: Required; no guarantee of hours or shift preference Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Medical–Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in an acute care medical unit. This role requires a flexible, patient-focused nurse who can provide high-quality care to adult patients in a fast-paced hospital environment. Unit Details Medical unit with approximately 50 beds Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 Patient population: Adults 18 years and older May float to Surgical Pediatrics or Transitional Care units as needed Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive Med–Surg level nursing care to adult patients Perform patient assessments, monitoring, and documentation Administer medications and treatments per provider orders Manage and monitor equipment such as wound vacs and chest tubes Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care Maintain patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality at all times Equipment & Systems Meditech electronic medical record (EMR) Pyxis medication dispensing system Wound vacs, chest tubes, and other acute care equipment Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of recent Med–Surg or higher acuity nursing experience Active Hawaii RN license required by assignment start Candidates without an active license must apply upon offer acceptance Strong clinical judgment and adaptability across variable shifts Certifications BLS/BCLS required ACLS preferred Dress Code Professional nursing attire Closed-toe shoes required No specific scrub color restrictions Orientation & Training Department-specific orientation provided during the first week Additional Requirements Must arrive the Thursday prior to assignment start to complete employee health requirements on Friday Only applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and possess the required certifications are eligible to apply.
